DARK TIMES
Dark Times Exhibition
A black and white photography series portraying the darkest times human beings face, particularly but not exclusively, Millennials.
The images were captured in my NYC studio expressing different feelings, emotions, moods, movements in different angles and settings, but I was never still, posing or “stuck “. They are purposely unedited and somber at first as the goal is to put the deepest wounds on paper and let them go: live, leave it and move on!
For this exhibit however, I did not perform the poems. Instead I decided to create a curtain with the images that the audience had to walk through in order to get to the brighter side of the exhibit and new performance. This time I didn’t want the audience to dwell on the images or over analyze that installation but instead perceive it as a necessary step to get to the blissful, aftermath of overcoming hardships. Unlike “Love in All Seasons”, I didn’t need the images to heal since I am on to the next phase of life which is being reborn.
For this installation I used 50 raw, medium prints (each one available for sale) and also printed all of the poems of the “Dark Times” series and then attached the poems of one side of the curtain and the photos on the other side. If the poems are too heavy, the audience can just look at the images and vice versa, or you could just keep on walking.
The work still has a hint of progressiveness: from the experience and observation of depression, sadness, life struggles and the power of the ego, growing towards inner peace, joy, healing and a full open heart, however it is at the entrance of the exhibit which also means it is not as important this time.
The only thing that can take us out of darkness is faith, which means both are part of each other.
