“CRAVING LAND & NATURAL REACTIONS” IS A COMBINED INSTALLATION WORK FOR EXHIBIT PURPOSES. THE FORMER IS A PHOTOGRAPHY AND INSTALLATION PROJET, WHILE THE LATTER IS A VIDEO AND OBSERVATION PROJECT.

“Craving Land” is an installation that consists of photos of junk food on one hand and healthy food on the other hand hanging on the wall, combined with baskets full of oranges and baskets full of candy and chips.

The goal of the work is to make people choose a snack the moment they arrive and then make them reflect on their preference. Once we pause, and become aware of our eating decisions, not being really choices but results of peer pressure, habits, mental and emotional health, media manipulation and so on, that lead us to certain eating patterns, we can then change them and live a better life.

Part 1: Eat the candies and/ or chips!

Part 2: Enjoy the pictures and temptations, laugh, realize what you just did.

Part 3: Chips are messier than oranges! You can always go back and grab a fruit.

“Natural Reactions” is an 8 minutes long video that focuses on exposing the power of cravings and our eating habits. During the video I am tempted to eat junk food but decide to go for the healthy option (in this case an orange), while doing so, I decided to be honest and totally aware of my thoughts through the process. I then wrote everything down, in a form of an equation that can be read next to the video being played.

I purposely printed the equation on an orange paper because orange being one of the least favorite colors that people prefer, in this case, it actually becomes attractive. Just like I had to eat the orange, even though it wasn’t my favorite choice, the audience will be drawn to read the equation. “Natural Reactions” invites the audience into becoming part of the project without them realizing it.
