MUTATING BODIES

Ella Noir at the Exhibition for Mutating Bodies.

“Mutating Bodies” is the same work of photography and poetry that was at my first exhibit “Love Fall Ball”, except that this time the poems were recorded and played on replay so the audience could have more of an immersive experience rather than just observing and reading. “Mutating Bodies” is about the different, transitional phases of the body. The installation highlights the raw beauty of bodies that we often subconsciously resent and / or reject due to deeply molding, society’s unreleastic standards of beauty. The intent is for bodies, often judged against, to be instead appreciated for the hard work they allow us to achieve.

“Mutating bodies” images also express emotions, reactions and convey a message about the consequences associated with sexual interactions such as men’s lust, pregnancy, and the self-consciousness many women experience while completely nude. I purposely printed the photos in different shapes and sizes to mirror the message, making the audience step forward or backward, forcing it to spend more time observing a picture and forming an opinion. I combined it with 3 poems about the body. Everyone featured is also anonymous and no face is depicted in order to avoid any personal preference to play a role in the liking or disliking of the bodies. It is a growing project, which means I will continue to add images and poems to it.
